DVC in Collaboration with Jadavpur University, unveils ‘Green Yellow Taxi’ Prototype, Pioneering Sustainable Mobility through Retrofitted E-Mobility

The prototype has been developed under DVC’s Research & Development project titled “Digital Twin Development to Study the Feasibility of Retrofitted E-Mobility and Technological Requirements for its Sustainability.” The project seeks to address one of the key challenges in the transition to electric mobility—the premature scrapping of existing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles—by exploring a cost-effective and sustainable retrofitting solution. Press Information Bureau Government of India ********************** West Bengal gears Up for Digital Census 2027 Self-Enumeration to begin from August 1 Kolkata, May 29, 2026 The Government of West Bengal has initiated preparations for the Census 2027, which will be conducted with a strong emphasis on digital technology, citizen participation and data accuracy. Addressing a press conference in Kolkata, the Chief Minister stated that the Census is a Constitutional obligation and a mandatory national exercise, vital for evidence-based policymaking and planning. The Chief Minister informed that the State Government had approved the necessary arrangements for the Census during the Cabinet meeting held on May 11, 2026. The exercise assumes particular significance for West Bengal given its over 600-kilometre international border, making accurate demographic data essential for effective governance and monitoring. Chief Electoral Officer briefs media on Preparedness for General Election to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly, 2026

Press Information Bureau Government of India ***** Kolkata, March 16, 2026 The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, in a press briefing in Kolkata today outlined the preparedness for the upcoming General Election to the West Bengal Legislative Assembly 2026. The briefing highlighted the scale of the electoral process, key voter statistics, and measures being undertaken to ensure smooth, inclusive and transparent polling across the State. According to the CEO, the total number of registered voters in West Bengal stands at 6,44,52,609. Among them, 4,16,089 are persons with disabilities (PwD) and 3,78,979 voters are aged 85 years and above. The electoral roll also includes 5,23,229 young voters in the 18–19 age group, reflecting strong participation of first-time voters in the democratic process.
