GUSKARA TEACHER MAKES DURGA IDOL FROM DISCARDED MEDICINE STRIPS

      While sweeping away the household garbage, Tapan Das, a high school vocational teacher and resident of Guskara, is rejoicing in the joy of creating with that discarded garbage. With this garbage, he has made attractive idols of various gods and goddesses along with the Jagannath Dev temple in Puri. Now, he has made a Durga idol with discarded medicine strips.  

       To make his idea a reality, Tapan Babu has been collecting discarded or abandoned medicine strips and X-ray plates for the last two years. Some friends who own local drug stores have extended a helping hand. In addition, there were medicine strips used at home. To make the background, he bought cardboard and glue from the market. Later, with utmost care, patience and hard work, he made this idol in a small space. He made the background of the idol with cardboard and paper.

        To make it attractive, an X-ray plate used with glue was placed on it. Later, the medicine strips were cut into pieces and various idols including Durga were made. The idols made of colorful strips became quite attractive. To make the entire structure spectacular, the raised round parts of the medicine strips were placed one by one. The structure was made in a very small space. For that, it becomes very interesting.

      For now, the structure is kept in Tapan Babu's house. If he gets a chance, he wants to put it in various puja pandals for visitors during pujas.

       Tapan Babu said that he had been wanting to make Durga idols with medicine strips for a long time. That is why he started collecting them. Finally,

after working hard for more than a month, he made this structure.

      Incidentally, the way Tapan Babu is constantly creating new things one after another with discarded items, it can be said that he is a worthy candidate for the President's Award.

     Now let's see whether he really gets the President's Award for this innovative creation of his!
